Dear family,

The new year has some surprises already. A couple of days ago we began to take in water at the office building where our ministry resides. The problem was due to an ice build-up on the roof. After spending several hours moving our books and other items, we were able to circle around to thank God for saving us from serious losses. This is a good way to begin our work this year, reminding us that He is in control of all things and that our ministry is really His after all. Whatever He wants to give us, we have only to obey Him and to trust Him. Right now, as I write, I'm surrounded by boxes that have been moved from the packing room where the water entered. It's a minor inconvenience for the privilege of serving Christ, and a whole lot better than being thrown into prison.

As you might imagine, all ministries found 2009 to be a challenge, due to the economic situation. We experienced roughly what others did---a little short of a quarter less income than the year before. But we want to brag on God by saying that He helped us beautifully through it all, especially showing us several ways to trim without affecting essential ministries. All the ministry He wanted was done; we can be confident of that. And we don't think we have one thing to complain about. He has been so gracious to us. Since God led us from the beginning to avoid debt, we were able to make quick changes as God led us. Regardless of what the future holds for all of us, we know that we can continue to find all HIS ways to serve others.

We're optimistic about this new year. It promises to be an important one. We hope to do more with electronic media such as putting our books on Kindle. About a quarter of the books being sold in the US now are distributed this way. We're improving websites and other media connections this next year also. If all goes well, we'll have at least two, or perhaps three books ready for 2010. And we will be traveling and speaking. On the docket at present are trips to Ethiopia and Poland, plus venues around the country. More will develop as we go along.

For those of you who have helped us this year, please accept our thanks. Some of you have sacrificed to do so. All of you have done so in love. It has made a difference. Often we were waiting on God as the mail arrived. He did not fail us. Thanks for being the instrument that He used.

Thanks again for your love and participation.

Jim
