She Better Be Careful

She Better Be Careful

The person who runs from God and does not want to know him lest her motivations and deeds be revealed, had better do all she can to shield herself from any insidious notion that God has in fact displayed himself in nature and in a written revelation. She must tightly grasp evolution (or some other mechanistic theory) on the one hand, and “the-Bible-as-merely-human-words-written-by-well-meaning-people” in the other hand. If she lets loose of either, she is going down.

She feels strongly equipped against fiat creation and the Bible as truth, and well-supported by her friends and her articulate college professor, but she had better be careful. God may open her eyes. She has embraced an oozing sickened monster in the only way you could bring yourself to do it — as a blind woman — and doesn’t even know it. But if she sees him, all of a sudden, she will be repulsed. And if she sees, all of a sudden, the glory of Christ, she will be compelled to change her devotion in a moment.

Blindness and sight: on these two rests her eternal state.

“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”
